Nelsonville Music Festival 2025 Recap

Nelsonville Music Festival 2025 was held on June 20th-June 22nd in Nelsonville, Ohio, and Crowdsurfer Magazine was there to capture the beauty of this intimate festival experience. Nelsonville is a small community located just outside of Athens, nestled in the hills of southeastern Ohio. Since its inception, this festival has been focused on raising funds for Stuart’s Opera House, a non-profit historic theater in Nelsonville. In addition to the focus on giving back to the community, this festival also strives to have a positive impact on the environment by being a Zero Waste event and diverting over 92% of waste from the festival to recycling and composting.

Despite the 90-degree days, NMF had an incredible turnout for all three days of the festival. Many festival attendees camped out in the nearby “Mudville” campground where sets were carried late into the night. The festival had 3 stages, one of which was situated in the woods surrounded by hammocks. Throughout the festival grounds, touching art installations could be found to honor the memory of the late Michael Hurley, an American folk singer-songwriter who was a long-time performing artist at NMF throughout the years. NMF also highlighted local artists in the “Artisan Village” section of the festival grounds. Although the heat was intense, festival attendees could be seen setting up their camp chairs in the shady areas. The entire vibe of the festival was chill and family-friendly, with all kids under age 12 gaining free admission to the festival.

The festival line-up featured a wide range of talented musical artists. The weekend was filled with incredible performances, some of which included: Charley Crockett, Waxahatchee, Taj Mahal, MJ Lenderman, The Black Lips, The Bug Club, Being Dead, Esther Rose, Dehd, and Low Cut Connie.

If you are looking for a festival featuring a wide range of eclectic artists in the literal woods, I highly recommend checking out Nelsonville Music Festival. Not only does this festival have an incredible purpose and commitment to the community; but the stunning backdrop, friendly festival attendees, and impressive lineup will surely win your heart. I am thrilled to share with you a selection of photos from my incredible weekend in the woods.

OK GO at The Agora in Cleveland, Ohio

OK GO stopped by the Agora in Cleveland, Ohio, on Sunday 4/29 as part of the first leg of their Adjacent Possible Tour. Lead singer Damian Kulash fielded questions from the audience throughout their set and even invited a fan onstage to showcase their whistling skills. Confetti rained down on the crowd during several songs.

One highlight of the show was when the band joined together for an a capella version of “Shooting the Moon” while playing the handbells- yes, the handbells. OK GO’s positive and fun stage presence completely aligns with their impressive and creative music video performances. I highly recommend this concert experience for anyone and everyone. The Used’s 25th Anniversary Tour in Detroit

The Used just kicked off their 25h anniversary tour and I embarked on a road trip to Detroit, Michigan to catch night 1 of 3. For this tour, The Used is playing 3 nights in each city, with each night featuring a different album in full. Albums include their 2001 self-titled, In Love and Death (2004), and Lies for the Liars (2007).

Since I was traveling from Cleveland, I had the tough choice of deciding which of the 3 nights to attend. Ultimately, I decided on night 1 featuring The Used’s self-titled album. Twenty-five years later, The Used continues to have an extremely dedicated fan base which spans a range of ages and generations. At one point during the show, lead singer Bert McCracken even invited a young kid on stage to join for a song.

As a life-long fan of The Used, this performance was deeply personal for me and it was a thrill being in the photo pit and alongside the front row. There’s something unique about shows that feature an entire album from start to finish. This format replicates the way many of us fans first encountered the music: on CDs! The core memories that came flooding back when the first notes hit is quite indescribable. I’m sure many readers can connect with the experience of profoundly loving an album that shaped your youth or got you through tough times and The Used is one of those bands for me. It was an honor to scream the words to all the songs on this incredible album. Some popular fan favorites included “The Taste of Ink” and “Buried Myself Alive,” and the band ended with a high energy performance of “Choke Me.”

If The Used is coming to your general area, I highly recommend you make it to at least one of the 3 nights. Check out photos from the show below!
