Adam Melchor // Concert Photos

Adam Melchor returned to his native tri-state area to perform at the Music Hall of Williamsburg on Friday, November 5.

With his family in the crowd, the artist filled the night with special memories for everyone in attendance. Melchor began the night somewhat nervously divulging the stories behind his songs and expressing his immense gratitude to the crowd.

As the night progressed, Melchor’s nerves settled, allowing him to get more personal. Prior to playing the song “Jewel”, he shared a story about the moment his sister said that she saw herself being with her boyfriend (now husband) forever, who were both in attendance. He found the moment so sweet that he had decided to write a song about it.

He then continued on with a different story, this time about his friend/song writing partner. The friend’s neighbor had just gotten a “broken rooster”, who was cawing at all hours of the day. When the two met up for a songwriting session, Melchor wanted to focus on the sweet moment with his sister. As the session progressed, they got stuck on a verse. After spitballing ideas for awhile, they exchanged glances and Melchor said,

“So the second verse is going to be about the rooster huh…”

As he performed the song, the crowd collectively laughed as Melchor sang the verse that goes,

“There’s a rooster in the yard behind us

Crowing at all hours of the day

He must be blind but

He only has to get it right just once

Like I got it right with you

‘Cause you’re my jewel”

Rounding out the family affair was his dad joining Melchor and his band on stage to perform “Real Estate”. Melchor shared that when he was growing up his first exposure to music was at his friends’ houses. His dad would often pick him up and ask everyone about their afternoon. When Melchor shared that they had been playing music, his dad picked up the guitar and casually whipped out a few licks, leaving the young Melchor and all of his friends in absolute astonishment.

Christian Leave // Concert Photos

Christian Leave warmed up the crowd for beabadobee at Webster Hall on Thursday, November 6.

At just 21 years old, the critically-acclaimed artist has collected over 6 million total streams and has become a mainstay on some of Spotify’s most popular playlists, such as Lorem, Indie Pop, and The New Alt.

His popularity was highlighted the moment Leave and his band ran onto the stage. The large crowd began enthusiastically cheering and jumping with such voracity that the floors of Webster Hall shook beneath them.

Surprisingly, this energy did not overwhelm Leave, who performed the majority of his set with a cool and calm demeanor. We look forward to watching the young artist continue to grow and creatively evolve in the coming years. In the meantime, listen to his latest EP Days Like Lost Dogs here

Silversun Pickups at Brooklyn Steel

Silversun Pickups played two nights in a row at Brooklyn Steel, and we were at the first one on March 5, 2020. They opened with “Neon Wound” and played other crowd favorites such as “Panic Switch” and “Nightlight.” Fans all around could be seen dancing like crazy and, or course, screaming every word. Check out the gallery for photos from the night!

The New Regime at Brooklyn Steel

The New Regime played in NYC on March 5, 2020, the first of a two-night run at Brooklyn Steel. The dark, moody lighting set the tone and we were treated to a longer opening set, which I certainly wasn’t opposed to. The New Regime ended on “Heart Mind Body & Soul,” which is a song I strongly suggest you take a listen to if you’ve never heard it before!

#LauvLive at National Sawdust

If you’re a fan of lyrics that put you in your feels, then you’ve probably heard of Lauv. In celebration of his debut album dropping at midnight, Lauv hosted a #LauvLive with Spotify in New York City at National Sawdust, where he played acoustic or stripped down versions of the new songs on the album and talked about the meanings behind them. We headed to Brooklyn to catch all the action.

Everyone in line (and by everyone we mean the 200 people that were lucky enough to make it in the door) got a glowey Lauv wristband which lit up in matching colors depending on what song he was singing. The theme of the new album ~how i’m feeling~ is that no one is made up of one specific thing. There are many pieces to being a human, and many different sides and moods and personalities of each of us.

He explained that his identity is comprised of six characters that relate to a color: red is Spicy Lauv, orange is F*ckboy Lauv, yellow is Positive Lauv, green is Goofy Lauv, blue is Hopeless Romantic Lauv, and purple is Existential Lauv.

Before Lauv came onstage a few minutes past 9pm, fans could grab a drink, munch on some complimentary popcorn, and take a photo in the rainbow-themed photo booth.

The show started in orange as he walked onstage with a guitar and sang a gorgeous rendition of Canada, which led into a neon-blue singalong to Fuck I’m Lonely.

Spicy Lauv came out and the room glowed red when he sang the third song of his set, a new song called El Tejano, swaying the crowd with lyrics about getting margaritas and dancing with a lover. The space shifted to green during Billy, as Lauv told the crowd about a song he wrote about his beloved dog.

He made sure to thank not only everyone in the room multiple times, but all the people that were watching the livestream from their respective countries. Lauv said he had been waiting for this moment (of his debut album release) for so long that he had a lot of emotions processing at once, but that he was so excited for everyone to hear the album.

#LauvLive with Spotify

The crowd came together in a chorus as he ended with acoustic versions of his hits I Like Me Better and Modern Loneliness, following up lines like “To be young and in love in New York City” with “Love my friends to death, but I never call and I never text.”

Lauv, also known by his real name Ari, has been very vocal about his own mental health issues and the importance of de-stigmatizing and normalizing it. He started the Blue Boy Foundation, and has a telephone-booth-like blue box at all of his shows, called My Blue Thoughts, where you can type or record a message about how you’re feeling and share it with other Lauv fans around the world.

The room became a shimmery rainbow as he gave a final bow and left the stage, representing all the pieces of him coming together for his debut album.

I was already a Lauv fan before this show, but this deepened my love for his music and respect for him as an artist. You can watch the livestream in full right here. The new album is out now, so make sure you stream Lauv’s new album ~how i’m feeling~ and let us know your favorites!

Magic Giant at Webster Hall

Magic Giant finished their co-headlining tour with American Authors on February 28, 2020 in New York and we were there to capture all of the antics. Magic Giant won the game of Plinko at the start of the show, so they played their set first, but most of the concert was a combination of both bands which was crazy fun! They kept the energy high all night, only bringing it down for a few minutes to wander into the crowd and sing a couple acoustic songs, which left the whole crowd feeling the feels. After that, it was back to jumping, kicking, bouncing, and spinning around the stage! Check out the gallery below for some photos of the final show.

Tove Lo at Brooklyn Steel

Tove Lo headlined two sold out nights at Brooklyn Steel and unfortunately fractured her ankle during the first one. But the show must go on, so she gave us an equally stunning performance on February 13, 2020 with a bedazzled boot from a velvet throne. Tove Lo had us all dancing to some sexy beats and then brought tears to our eyes when she slowed down the show to sing “Moments,” accompanied only by the piano. She brought out ALMA to sing “Bad As The Boys” and Sean Paul to sing their new single “Calling On Me,” and showed us all that rocking a concert from a chair is no problem!

ALMA at Brooklyn Steel

ALMA opened at Brooklyn Steel on February 13th for the second sold out night in a row and gave us a taste of her upcoming album. And, of course, she came out to sing “Bad As The Boys” with Tove Lo. Take a look at the gallery below for some images from the concert.
